Making no bones about it

Well aware of the importance of strong bones to elite athletes, some of Australia’s best sports stars gathered at Peninsula, Docklands last night in a fundraising effort for the ISIS Bone Growth Foundation Dinner.

Joining a cast of 600 guests - predominately made up of the staff, clients, sub-contractors and suppliers of major sponsor ISIS - sporting personalities, three-time Olympic gold medalist Drew Ginn, 2008 Tour de France stage winner Simon Gerrans and recently retired Collingwood favourite Shane Wakelin enjoyed a spectacular night, packed full of entertainment.

Popular comedian and Fox FM radio host, Jo Stanley headed the proceedings as Master of Ceremonies, with comedy act Paul Martell, the mesmerizing Classy, Sexy Funky and show band Dejavu, keeping guests on the edge of their seats.

The highlight of the night was the entertaining exchange between host Jo Stanley and Tour de France stage winner Simon Gerrans.  Amongst a number of questions focussing on men in lycra, the jockey sized Gerrans was asked by Stanley if the riders lose weight during the three-week torture test through France.

“We have a saying in cycling, if you lose weight during the Tour de France, you’re too fat to start with,”  said Gerrans, who celebrated his recent signing by European pro tour team Cervelo.

A huge success, the night - in its fifth edition - raised in excess of $120,000 for the Bone Growth Foundation taking the total donations from ISIS events across Australia to close to $1million.

The Bone Growth Foundation provides infrastructure and support for research into children’s crippling bone growth problems.  The money raised will contribute to improving the quality of life for almost 250,000 children by finding better, less painful treatments.

Notable attendees involved in the 2008 ISIS Bone Growth Foundation Dinner included:

  • Drew Ginn: three-time Olympic rowing gold medalist
  • Simon Gerrans: 2008 Tour de France stage winner
  • Shane Wakelin: recently retired, 252-game AFL star
  • Alicia Molik: former world top-ten tennis player
  • John Fitzgerald: Davis Cup captain and Bone Growth Foundation patron
  • Jo Stanley: Popular comedian, TV and radio personality
  • Dr. Bruce Foster: Chairman, Bone Growth Foundation

ISIS Charity Golf Day 2/10/2008

Congratulations to ISIS Sydney who for the second year in succession, donated $150,000 to the Bone Growth Foundation.  These funds were raised through an extremely successful Golf Day and Dinner held at Ryde Parramatta Golf Course on October 2nd. Special thanks is to be extended to Platinum Sponsor – Heyday Group, Premium Gold Sponsors – Axis Plumbing, Itxcel, R&D Air Supply and Gold Sponsors – Syndicate Communications Group, Master Carpets, Ontera, Optus Business Direct North Shore & Northern Beaches and X-clusive.

Golfers of all skill levels spent a fun filled day on the golf course.  Everyone had an opportunity to win a prize as each hole was allocated an activity which ranged from trivia, “Hit the Boat”, the longest drive to “Pop a Goal in the Hole”.  Refreshments were plentiful and even a massage therapist was on hand to easy the stress in the shoulders and necks of weary golfers.  Prizes ranged from a 42 inch plasma TV, DVD players, 5 star hotel accommodation and meals, vouchers, golf balls and bottles of wine.  One of the highlights of the day included the putting comp play off between three finalists.

A 3 course dinner at Ryde Parramatta Golf Course concluded the event, the entertainment line up included comic hoaxster Rodney Marks and speech from BGF Chairman, Dr Bruce Foster along with special guest, Joel Ronayne, a patient of Dr David Little from Westmead Children’s Hospital who was also present at the event.   Part of the proceeds will be donated to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
